The Basics

This page is reserved for BASIC information that every saddle hunter should be aware of. Be sure that you have reviewed the homepage for specific topics, and most importantly, the Safety page:

Putting on a Saddle

It sounds simple enough, but a lot of saddle hunters struggle with putting on a saddle. JRB finds no reason to open anything in your saddle, with the possible exception of the waist belt. There is no need to disconnect the leg straps for example, and there is no reason to use a bridge which can be opened.

Measurements

Occasionally, we will find ourselves in a situation on a hunt where we need an approximate measurement and have no measuring device. For example, creating a Longhorn Agile hitch for an improvised climb on a system without pre-tied hitches requires a specific length for the working loop. JRB demonstrates how a few reference distances can be easily produced using the one tool we will always have with us: our body.
