About Webbing
Webbing can be used with a Water Knot for a variety of uses, including creating slings, drags, as well as the Garda Hitch Footloop, detailed on this page:
Some details:
- Nylon products will have more stretch than Polyester.
- Flat webbing is typical, like a common strap or belt.
- Tubular webbing has a tubular cross section, and is generally thicker and stronger than flat webbing.
Water Knot
The Water Knot is the standard for joining two ends of webbing to create a sling:

Tubular Webbing
This 1″ Tubular Webbing is the same product used in the Garda Hitch Footloop kit. Every climber should have some for use in creating custom slings (using the Water Knot) or for creating friction reducing sleeves for such devices as the Blakes Hitch Tensioner and Hitch tending devices. Coyote Brown is a great color, but OD Green, Green, Black and even Red are fine colors for a hunting application.
Also available on Amazon:
Rock-N-Rescue 1″ Nylon Tubular Webbing
GM Climbing 1″x30′ Tubular Nylon Webbing (4000 lb)
Flat Webbing
Flat webbing typically has a strength profile which is NOT adequate for life safety applications, but is great for utility slings such as a deer drag. Choose your applications appropriately. A water knot holds well in the creation of utility slings.
