Overview
Fixed loop knots are those which create one or more closed loops which are not adjustable in size after they are secured. Some are TIB (tied in the bight) allowing us to create them in the middle of the rope, and some require access to the END of the rope.
1. JRB End Loop
The JRB End Loop is used for creating a small loop on the end of a rope for ease of rigging and retrieving the rope only. It is not to be used for any form of life-safety load applications. See:
2. Alpine Butterfly
The Alpine Butterfly can be tied on the end or on the bight and can even be tied with a double loop, making it the most versatile of the loop knots.
3. Figure 8 End Loop
This is the easiest end loop to pass through a crotch. JRB uses it in MRS/DRT systems.
4. Scott’s Locked Bowline
JRB uses Scott’s Locked Bowline for some SRT Canopy Anchor applications. Note that Scott’s Bowline requires access to the END of the rope.
5. Bowline on the Bight
Although the Bowline on the Bight can be used for a number of applications, JRB particularly likes it for a canopy anchor which can allow the passage of a friction hitch during rigging. Unlike Scotts, the BOTB does not require access to the END of the rope.
